Cloister - Clamhstra
A large section of the 15th Century Cloister has been restored. Some fine masonry marks have survived the 1653 Cromwellian destruction.
The Cloister was a sheltered walkway and place of prayer for the monks. In wet weather they took their walks here reading and meditating, sheltered from the wind and rain.
In the 1960s before the excavation - there were no visible signs of a cloister garth or arcade, but 3-4 feet deeper into the earth the workmen uncovered this remarkable which adds so much to the Abbey.
